Debate #1 - Reader's Digest Version

Jim Lehrer did the best job of any moderator in a Presidential debate that I have seen.  I admire the way he controlled his irritation with these two politicians.  Lehrer, time after time, begged, cajoled, and directed Maverick and Obama to not only answer specifically the questions that were asked but to talk to each other.  Lehrer did a yeoman's job trying to pin these guys down on things of current interest to the public.
Obama finally got the hang of it and directed some of his comments to Maverick.    John "Did I Mention That I Didn't Win Miss Congeniality" McCain was rude and refused to look at Obama.  This guy is just odd.  I don't think Mav's comfortable debating anyone.  We hear all the time about how he goes against other Congress members and the Administration but I'm wondering, does he do it through proxy?  Does he do a Miles Davis and turn his back when he's talking to them?  Meanwhile, Obama, though he seems like the kid who has a photographic memory but does not really digest anything, was likeable. What can I say?

Obama cleaned McCain's clock the first 20 minutes or so of the debate.  His answers on the bailout, though general, at least showed that he thought about his answer beforehand.  McCain's answer made me want to throw tomatoes on the stage.  Mav rambled on about how great it was that GOVERNMENT, good ol' trustworthy Repubs and Dems, those most respectable and well-liked creatures to ever mismanage money were working together to fix this mess.  Maverick sounded emotional as he talked, again, about reaching across that aisle.  I swear, McCain is worse than I thought.  Is he this tone-deaf to the public?  The answer is "Yes".  Right now, this congress and President are in a tie with the Spanish Influenza as the least liked punishments ever to hit America.  And Maverick brags about how they're gonna fix things.  Together. hooray.

The next 90 minutes was just too long.  I tried my best to keep up with their answers on foreign policy and the WOT.  It boils down to this: Maverick would be way better in dealing with other nations.  Obama wants our troops to be wherever they are not currently fighting.  They both traded misleading "facts" about each other, mostly dealing with funding the troops and meeting with bad guys.  I don't think that Obama knows the difference between "pre-conditions" and "preparation"  or "tactic" and "strategy".

Obama has a convenient memory like most Dem/libs.  His statements evolve over time.  He has said he would attack Pakistan and meet with bad guys, no problem. But now he has padded those comments with other fluffy stuff so that it is surely not what he said, is it?  Meanwhile Mac keeps repeating the same ol' things:  he was in Nam, he has read history, he admires Reagan etc etc.  McCain talks too much about old stuff.  I don't want to hear what Truman said or any of Mav's lame jokes.  At one point my wife came into the room and asked, "What did I miss?"  I told her, "Well, McCain said that General Fremont once said that a bear in Montana's inexperience in pork barrell spending led the troops into a bailout for those who wanted a $5,000 tax credit for Healthcare. Oh, and he also said, 'I didn't win Miss Congeniality in Congress'".

I say McCain won the debate.  Neither candidate seems too smart about the economy. Good thing we don't have Romney right now, huh?   McCain is fairly strong on foreign affairs and the WOT.  Obama is a liberal on these things which means he's scary.  Remember when Carter was President?  I did not feel safe.  Reagan, Bush, and even Clinton were big enough for the job and I felt secure.  W kept the bad guys out, and some bad guys in, especially on Wall Street and in D.C.  But I think that Obama is too inexperienced and too liberal to make me feel okay if he wins. Even though I doubt he could do as much damage as these clowns have already done.  And Maverick is a choker.  I think he's actually scared that he may win.  Maverick has a temper, is rude and obstinate and a grand stander.  I think he's one of those back-benchers who won't be comfortable with the Big Chair.

Random, Scary Thoughts

Do y'all think the Dem/libs will finally figure out that having the Govt run all things is a smart idea?  They honestly believe that if the right people, Americans, ran a communist country, then things would be okay.  Uh, yeah. Riiight.

Was it my imagination or did W put the blame on us for spending and borrowing too much?  We're not sheep, of course, but if someone is handing out money all willy nilly don't you think most folks will go for it?  Didn't W tell us to go shopping TWICE?!!!  Once, after 9/11 and then last spring when they handed out a check to everyone.  I swear, W may just be one of the worst Presidents afterall.  His strong suit is keeping terror Over There but I'm having trouble thinking of any other good things he's done.

Please, Loyalists, please, tell me the major differences between Mac and Obama again?  I ask this because the Repubs, Dems, and money men are working together to mess us over.  They only respond in emergencies and only if it affects them personally.  WTH, man, WTH!!!

If you step back and take an honest look at America's situation, you will see that we are in deep trouble.  Water is getting scarce. Fuel is getting scarce.  We are an inch away from financial collapse.  Our military is stretched thin.  Our representatives have feet of clay.  Our enemies haven't even started to attack us physically yet.  Sleep well.

Will the Repubs go after the Dem/libs?  Y'all know that if there was a Stupid Party member to hang, the Dem/libs would be all over them, Scooter-like.  So, it must be the Dem/libs, right?  I guess we'll listen to the Jeopardy theme song while we wait for the flaccid Repubs to do anything about it.

Every time I see Dodd and Frank tell us that we need to fix this - my blood pressure goes up and I contemplate becoming Muslem.

Mr. Obvious

If you wanted to force communism, fascism, or just plain ol' socialism on a country full of fighters, how would you do it?  Let's say the goal is to control the population with one goal being to have govt ownership of property and labor etc.  Would you try it straight on?  Would you roll out the tanks and the secret police?  No. That won't work. History shows us from the Colonies to the mountains of Afghanistan to the corners of Mexico that that method won't work. It is unsustainable.  Would you have politicians and advocacy groups speak to the People loudly, persuasively, and often?  No. That will appeal to a small percentage of the population. No real power there.

There MUST be a way.  What is it?  Hmmm.  Well, we know humans, no matter whence they come, will take things if they come easy.  How would you use this weakness?  How about if you get the govt and money people to work together?  You could get the govt to get the money people to hand out money to the People, who in turn would buy up property that they can't really afford.  Business folks would borrow and build office buildings and shopping centers and flip and flop houses at a crazy rate.  Now, why would the money people do this?  Because the govt would assure the money people that their money is safe because the govt will guarantee and replenish the bucket.  The beauty of it is, you would have it arranged so that the People will be the ones to actually fill it.

Now you've set the Ponzi scheme in motion with the goal of having it reach optimum bubble size before it bursts.  Your goal is to have as many People invested, hopefully, above their heads, into the scheme.  What happens when it bursts?  Well, what happened when overbuying occurred in the 20's?  The money ran out and govt stepped in.  Roosevelt ran as King for 16 years.  He implemented socialist programs which the People loved.  Many are still with us.  Just like that, socialism got a foothold.  Nobody blinked.

Where are we today?  That's right.  The People are scared and the govt is going to step in again.  For their own good.  The govt OWNS businesses and property.  There are people who will still argue that this is NOT nationalisation, fascism, communism, socialism or any other kind of ism.  This is because they are desperate and weak.  Your plan is almost finished.  Be patient. Wait another decade or so.  You will succeed.

Inherant Racism to Cause Strange Bedfellows?

I just had a thought (I know, hold your congrats) - what if black voters left the Dem party en masse and joined the cons who've left the Repub party en masse?

It's not too farfetched, I think.  Blacks may finally wake up and realize that the Dem party is the home of real racism - white Dem voters in NYC, Philladelphia, Boston, West Virginia, the South and all over won't vote for Obama because he's black; and the Hispanic and Asian voters won't vote for Obama because he's black. Of course, I'm not painting ALL white, Hispanic, and Asian Dem voters as bigotted but we all know that the Dem party is the party of groups, race, sex, and class identity politics.  Having sown the seeds of group identity which, in turn, sows the seed of racial, sex, and class pride, it is only logical that most of these folks will not vote for a black man for President.

We all know that liberals, in general, only take white people seriously when it comes to good or bad behavior.  They'll listen with grave interest to threats and promises from white people worldwide but are only amused when it is someone with brown, black or yellow skin.  In America, these diverse Dem groups gladly accept black votes but isn't it rare that the favor is returned?

Meanwhile, the blacks of the Republican party - the conservative Christian voters - are being similarly demeaned and pandered to.  Cons, being cons, have decided to stand on principle and tell the Repub party to kiss our grits, or hash brown, rice, etc.  We are looking for a new home or to reform the Repub party.  The great thing about cons in particular is that they will vote for the most qualified conservative person regardless of race or sex.  (We're still working on religion - HUCK fans).

Now, here's where I think we can "evolve" if you will:
1. The Dems and the Repubs both contain cons in their party who hold their noses too often in elections.
2. Blacks have been abused by their party.
3. Blacks are socially conservative.
4. Cons have been abused by their party.
5. The third party members need more numbers.

What would happen if black Dem voters, cons, white con Dem voters, Hispanic cons from both parties, indies, libertarians, regular Americans, and constitutionalists all joined the Conservative Party?  Or we could call it the American Party?  There is a void in the market, we all know it instinctively.  It needs filling.

These are exciting times. Let's not go back to doing things as usual.  The Repubs are about to have the first woman VP, soon to be Prez I'm sure.  Let's run with that, get the new party started, elect the first Con who happens to be black (or Asian, Hispanic, etc) to the Presidency.  This would be the nail in the coffin for the Dem/libs. We still have a chance to stamp out liberalism.  Now is the time.

Little Need for Words

I think I'm going to just sit here for a few weeks and watch the Great Reformer and the Heroic Republicans in action in regards to the FreddieMae, WaMu, Lehman Bros, AIG debacles without comment.  Congratulations by the way, my fellow Americans, on purchasing the largest insurance company in the world.  I am looking forward to the Republican charge to get the lowlifes who broke into Sarah's email as well.  The Repubs have been gutless for 20 years on going after lawbreakers and dirty dog Dem/libs. Oh, they helped put Scooter, Nacho and Jose behind bars and they pushed Packwood and Trent around but they can't seem to tackle the other guys.  Now, having been berated by the Pavlovians that "Things will be different with McCain, you'll see" and "You CAN'T let Obama win or else!", I can't wait to see how they and their Heroes respond to these situations.

And, thanks, Repub loyalists for convincing us former Repubs what a dangerous thing it would be to vote third party.

Sliiiiding Downward

My wife and I were out driving the other day when we noticed a billboard with the Showtime Movie Channel lineup in big bold letters and photos of the stars of the shows.  The shows were:

Californication - a show about a man who likes to fornicate in California
Dexter - about a loveable serial killer who kills other serial killers
Secret Diary of a Call Girl - (somehow Showtime got hold of it)
The Tudors - about an English family who likes to inbreed and start wars
Weeds - surburbanites who like to smoke the marijuana (which is illegal unless you are an NFL referee - they're blind, you see. See? Oh I am too funny)

So, what's wrong with this billboard which sits at a busy intersection where lots of people of all ages drive by?

Alright, I'll tell you.  Except, perhaps, for The Tudors, the rest of the lineup is filthy.  I can't imagine only 25 years ago, Showtime getting away with putting on shows like that and the billboard company having the nerve to put it up at all.  I guess if it is visually appealing we won't notice.  We've become, little by little, benumbed to this outrageous display of anti-social programming and this twisted view of American life.

As a librarian and an American I am against banning this or that. I'm just asking for a little consideration, a little responsibility, a little respect for those of us who don't want to see this stuff in public.  I don't care if someone is so far gone that they get off on watching these dark programs but give me a break with the big billboards wouldja?

And the sad thing is, these shows, along with garbage like Two and a Half Men, are considered winners in the Cable community.  It's sad how low a goodly portion of the entertainment industy has dropped.  Has anyone actually listened to pop radio lately?

One step at a time is all it takes, people. En garde!

Dem/lib Hypocrisy Example #s 457 and 458

Dr. Marc Lamont Hill was on the O'Reilly factor last night.  He's some professor somewhere.  He is an anomaly - a cheerful Dem/lib.  I like him for that.  Hill doesn't try to trick anyone by masking his language. Hill said he thinks Bush, McCain, Sarah et al are/will be bad for the country because he disagrees with their policies.  Fair enough.  Hill also admits when Dem/libs are wrong and do bad things.  O'Reilly asked him if he didn't think all of this attacking of Sarah is going to backfire and it was dirty.  Hill agreed and said that there were so many more things to criticise about Sarah.

THEN Hill did what a lot of Dem/libs these days do: he accused our side of doing what his side is repeatedly doing - playing identity politics to divide America.  We normal people understand that Dem/libs don't get it that they're hypocrites.  They don't even know what hypocrisy is.  Hypocrisy is when you publicly speak out against a behavior, policy, or idea yet behave in private the exact opposite of what you said and on an ongoing basis.  That's the general understanding of hypocrisy.  Someone who had an affair 10 years ago, got divorced, got remarried and is faithful now - Dem/libs would say that person can never speak about adultery or faithfulness because that would make them a hypocrite.  They think we don't know this little trick of theirs.  Yet Noam Chomskey and Cornel West can denounce capitalism, America and the human race in general (in Chomskey's case) and still cash their pay checks and take tax deductions with no qualms.

So, back to Hill.  Dr. Hill said that the Repubs were using race, education, and class to divide the country. And he was being sincere.  His party has done this since the early 70's yet as soon as the Repubs put an attractive blue collar suburban gun owner Gov mom who don't back down on the ticket to pretty much cover all the angles the Dem/libs freak out. hahahahahahaha.  The Dem/libs invented identity and group politics.  Single women who marry their jobs instead of men - MUST VOTE DEM/LIB.  Hispanics from everywhere except Cuba - MUST VOTE DEM/LIB.  Union workers - MUST VOTE DEM/LIB.  American blacks? - That's right - MUST VOTE DEM/LIB.  That's why they can't handle curveballs like Condi Rice, J.C. Watts, Joe Lieberman, Clarence Thomas and Sarah Palin.

Later on, Alan Colmes tried to bring this up with a former GOP spokeswoman on Hannity and Colmes.  I'm afraid I didn't catch her name but she was feisty, like Ann Coulter, I like that.  Colmes asked her, *"Who brought up Obama's faith..." and "...the race card..."  The woman jumped on his first question with "Hillary Clinton - when she was asked about Obama's faith, she said "he's not a muslem as far as i know..."  and the lady was laughing.  To the second question she gave the same answer, "The Clintons".  Colmes should think about his questions more.  The party of compassion, inclusion, and open-mindedness sure gets rough when it comes to trying to win.  They seem to do the opposite of what they preach, don't they?

*all quotes are inaccurate and my recollections. they are the gist of it, though.

Sarah's Speech

Some thoughts on the convention last night:

Sarah's speech was near great and better than Obama's because Sarah had humor and I believed that she believed what she was saying.
I am in awe of her performance. Has anyone ever seen anything better under similar circumstances?  I was a bit concerned for her until I saw her walking out onto the stage (it's NOT a podium dangit!) and then I remembered that she was a Beauty Queen at some time in the past.  What poise! What delivery!  What brutality!  A thing of beauty truly.

We feel comfortable calling Sarah Palin just "Sarah".  Now why is that?  I think it is because we all actually know a Sarah in our lives.  Someone who is realistic, optimistic, energetic, and has a sense of humor.  We don't really know any Mavericks or Obamas do we?  And if we did would we like them?

I predict that the shot of Palin's youngest daughter, Piper, licking her little hand to press down the hair on Trig's head is going to be one of the most famous shots in political candidates history. Was anyone not touched by that?  Where did Piper learn that?

Obama must be ready for the hospital.  He got beat up so bad he'll need a shoehorn to put his hat on.  First, Rudy Guiliani went after him.  When America's Mayor laughs at your resume, you're in trouble. The Mayor said something like, "Community Organizer? Really?  (pause for the laughter) What is that?"

Then the Governor of Hawaii, Linda Lingle, ridiculed Obama and Biden.  She pointed out that handling a budget in the billions takes some smarts and then she said Delaware could fit into Alaska about 27 times and has as many delegates.  Good on ya, Gov!  I really was impressed by Lingle and I loved it that the two women Govs from the final two non-contiguous states in our Union stick together.  I've never heard of this woman but I bet we'll all hear more and more about her. Lingle was fantastic.

Then we come to Sarah. Wow.  She hit just the right notes and it looked and sounded like she already knew what she was saying.  I was afraid that they would go the dumb route and get defensive. Instead she used humor in telling us about herself, her family, and her hometown.  Sarah then went on to discuss her accomplishments and her resume.  If she actually got all that done in 2 years or so as Governor, that is outstanding.  All in all, I have confidence that she is a capable and ready to go VP pick.

The best parts, of course, were where she skewered the Dem/libs in general and Obama in particular:
"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities. I might add that in small towns, we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening.

We tend to prefer candidates who don't talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco."

She went on to say how Dem/libs want to shrink the economy and how they always talk about "fighting" for the little guy while raising taxes and ignoring energy problems.   Sarah also zinged Obama on his Greek columns and the Fake Presidential Seal among many other jabs, left hooks, uppercuts, and roundhouse rights. Man! Sarah has the "it" gene.  Few other people could say what she said and have such a positive effect.

Immediately afterwards, Mort Kondrake, on FOX news, said the speech was okay and he made sure to point out that the speech was written for Palin.  What a jerk!  Like who DOESN'T have speech writers?  That means that she is getting to the Inside the Beltway elites.  Fortunately, Brit Hume put him back in his place by pointing out that everyone has writers.  Is that all you got, Mort?

Now, for the downside. Not once during the convention, has any of the speakers bragged about McCain's biggest bills like McCain-Feingold or McCain-Kennedy etc.  Nor has anyone addressed illegal immigration from Mexico and the dangerous border situation.  So while I'm sitting there listening to how great Mac is and how he'll protect us, I keep thinking about U.S. citizens getting kidnapped in Mac's backyard.

And I think Sarah overshadows him bigtime.  The ticket is upside down.  Can I get this off my chest?  What have I and VaPat and PPhil and MaineCon et al been saying for months?  YOU GOTTA TURN RIGHT.  So, it's Cons to the rescue again as McCain, out of desperation, gets Palin on the ticket.  Gosh, being conservative actually appeals to people.  Who knew?   I wish our brave Repubs would act like this between conventions!

The leftwing press has been chiding McCain that his first important decision was to pick a person like Palin.  They said she was unqualified, a nobody from Nowhere, Alaska.  They said Maverick blew it.  What I think is, Mac and that sorry soandso Lindsey Graham couldn't get Biden to agree and threw a dart at the wall and got Palin.  McCain is luckier than Ringo Starr in his selection.  But, we gotta give him credit since it WAS his decision.  Eat that, Mainstream Media Pundits.

So, to sum up, I love Sarah Palin from what I know of her.  I can't wait to vote for her.

In 2012.
